Sights in Malinska
Malinska is not only home to the beach, but also to a number of sights and attractions. However, it is more of a modern holiday resort without many old sights.
St. Apollinaris Church: This church in Malinska was built in the 19th century and is an excellent example of local religious architecture. Like much of Malinska, the church is relatively new at around 150 years old. The former small fishing village of Malinska has only grown significantly with modern tourism. The bell tower is also worth seeing.
Haludovo Palace Hotel: This hotel complex, which was once a luxury resort and is now abandoned, is a fascinating place for anyone interested in architecture and this kind of history. Less than a kilometer north of the center, almost by the sea. Built in 1971, the hotel was closed about 20 years ago and has been falling into disrepair ever since. In recent years, there have been plans to build a new luxury hotel on the site.
Cickini Archaeological Site: Just a short drive from Malinska, here are the remains of an old Roman villa and an early Christian basilica, which provide an insight into the island’s past. Near the suburb of Marsici. Not easy to find.
Porat Monastery: Located in the neighboring town of Porat, the 15th-century Franciscan monastery is surrounded by beautiful gardens and offers stunning views of the sea. About 3 km from the city center along the shore to the southwest. There is also a small museum and a church.
The most important attraction in the town is probably the quiet, central pedestrian zone, which runs around the harbour as a promenade. This is where a large part of life in Malinska (Krk Island) takes place.
For those who can afford luxury: The best hotel in Malinska is the luxury hotel Riva, which is known throughout Croatia and is located north of the town by the sea.
