Sights in Zadar (Croatia)

Sea organ: To our knowledge, this is a unique musical instrument under a stone slab right at the tip of Zadar’s Old Town peninsula. The sounds have been produced by about 35 organ pipes since 2005. The energy comes from the waves of the sea. The Zadar Sea Organ is a great, unique sight that no visitor to Zadar should miss. You can sit on the concrete steps and listen to the music of the sea organ.

Greeting to the sun Zadar: Another hypermodern sight right next to the sea organ. After dark, colourful lights have been displayed at 300 points on the 22-metre-diameter round plate since 2008. They are supposed to symbolise the rhythm of the waves. Greetings to the Sun Zadar is by the same Croatian artist as the Sea Organ Nikola Basic, who became world famous through these two works of art in Zadar.

Forum Zadar: About 200 metres away is the Roman forum of Zadar. In ancient times it was the largest town square (market place, forum) on this side of the Adriatic. Some of it has been preserved and is worth seeing.

Archaeological Museum of Zadar: Many things from the Forum excavation and from other ancient Roman excavations in the area are housed in the Archaeological Museum of Zadar. The museum only costs about 4 euros entrance fee. Well worth it, 3 floors of ancient finds.

The 5 fountains on a square at the entrance to the old town under the large park are also great. You should also take a walk in the alleys of the old town. Zadar has one of the most beautiful old towns on the Mediterranean.
